## Where does xAI get its training data?

xAI's consumer FAQ says Grok has primarily been pre-trained on a large corpus of publicly available information, filtered for quality, and that xAI may train on users' prompts and Grok's outputs unless they opt out. Private Chat content and business and enterprise customer content are not used to improve its models, according to the FAQ.

X's help center says X may share public X data and Grok interactions with xAI to train Grok and other generative AI models, with an opt-out under privacy settings. Reuters reported in March 2025 that xAI had taken over X, valuing X at $33 billion, and Elon Musk said the companies would combine data, models and compute.
