Sell My Data To AI

Content licensing platform

Getty Images

Getty Images licenses photos, video and illustrations from contributors and runs its own generative AI service, trained only on licensed visuals, that shares revenue with contributors each year. It signed display deals with Perplexity in October 2025 and OpenAI in June 2026. Contributors earn royalties of 15% to 45% per license, and Getty does not accept AI-generated files.

How does Getty Images pay contributors for AI?

Getty Images says its generative AI model is trained exclusively on licensed visuals, including its creative library, and that it compensates creators for the use of their work. When it launched the service in September 2023, Getty told TechCrunch it would share revenue on an annual recurring basis, split between a per-file share and a share based on traditional licensing revenue. Its site does not publish the amounts.

Which AI companies license from Getty Images?

Getty Images signed a multi-year deal with Perplexity in October 2025 to display its images in AI search, Reuters reported, and announced a multi-year display partnership with OpenAI for ChatGPT on June 21, 2026. Neither deal's value was disclosed, and Getty's release does not say whether the OpenAI deal covers training. Our image datasets page and Shutterstock profile cover the wider market.
