Content licensing platform

ProRata.ai

ProRata.ai licenses publisher content for its Gist.ai answer engine and pays publishers per use, based on attribution technology that measures each source's contribution to an answer. It said in June 2025 that more than 500 licensed publications power Gist.ai, and Axios reported a 50/50 revenue share for publishers. We could not load ProRata.ai's own site when checking, so facts come from its press release and Axios.

How does ProRata.ai pay publishers?

ProRata.ai pays publishers in proportion to how much their content contributes to each AI answer. Its June 2025 press release says patent-pending systems analyze AI output, measure each source's contribution and calculate compensation per use. It describes Gist.ai as an AI search engine built entirely on licensed content.

Axios reported in September 2025 that ProRata.ai had raised a $40 million Series B led by Touring Capital, launched Gist Answers for publishers to embed AI search on their own sites, counted 750 publishers in its network and offered a 50/50 revenue share to publishers licensing content to Gist Answers.

Which publishers work with ProRata.ai?

ProRata.ai's June 2025 release names The Atlantic, Fortune, TIME, The Guardian, Daily Mail, Sky News, Fast Company, Boston Globe Media, New York Magazine and The Philadelphia Inquirer among more than 500 licensed publications, along with Johns Hopkins University Press. It does not say whether the content is used to train models.

ProRata.ai suits publishers that want income tied to use rather than a one-off fee. Our revenue share definition and guide to AI data licensing models explain the trade-off.
