Data broker

A data broker is an intermediary that connects data owners with buyers. In AI training data, a broker values, vets and introduces rather than reselling.
A data broker is an intermediary that brings data owners and data buyers together and is paid for arranging the deal. In the AI training data market a broker typically values a dataset, checks the rights, finds suitable buyers and helps agree the license, which the seller then signs directly with the buyer.
Is data broker a legal term?
Data broker is a legal term in some US states. California's Delete Act, at Civil Code section 1798.99.80(c), covers businesses that knowingly collect and sell to third parties the personal information of consumers they have no direct relationship with. These businesses must register each year with the California Privacy Protection Agency, which set the 2026 fee at $6,000. UK law has no broker-specific register, though UK GDPR applies to any personal data a broker handles.
How is an AI data broker different?
An AI data broker such as Sell My Data To AI does not buy data for its own use or take custody of raw data. Buyers see redacted samples under a mutual NDA, and full data moves only after the seller signs a license directly with the buyer.
