Mistral AI, the Paris-based model developer, signed its first content deal with Agence France-Presse in January 2025, giving its Le Chat assistant access to about 2,300 AFP stories a day in six languages and an archive dating back to 1983. Financial terms were not disclosed. Mistral AI publishes no program, prices or terms for companies that want to sell it data.

What did Mistral AI license from AFP?
Mistral AI licensed AFP's newswire so Le Chat can cite AFP reporting in its answers. Mistral's announcement of January 16, 2025 cites AFP's daily production of 2,300 wires in French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Arabic. TechCrunch reported that the multi-year agreement covers an archive back to 1983, excludes photos and videos and is Mistral's first deal of this kind.
Neither the announcement nor the TechCrunch report says whether AFP content may be used to train Mistral's models. Our AI data deals tracker does not yet list this deal.
